A Nighttime Skincare Routine Guide

It’s not a trend, people. It’s here to stay for awhile, which explains the fact that the skincare industry is currently worth billions of dollars now. In 2018, the beauty industry grew to $135 billion; an increase by 60% within just 10 years, according to CNN.

So with millions of different products on the market, where do you even start? Let’s start with nighttime, since this is the time you give your entire self, especially your skin, a few hours to rejuvenate and repair. What you put on before bed, is so important for your skin to reap the benefits of, so you wake up the next day looking like a dewy dumpling.

Here’s a night time skincare routine, with products you can order or find within the Philippines:

Step 1: Cleanser

Probably the most overlooked step in a routine, but the most important. Living especially in Metro Manila, you have so much going on in the environment like traffic pollution and construction, EVERYWHERE. Which is why it’s a major step to really cleanse your skin to get rid of the grim and impurities that build up on your face during the day. Take note, we’re all for double cleansing!

Start off with an oil based cleansing balm, like Banilo Co.’s Clean It ZeroAn epic holy grail for a lot of people who want to make sure they get all of their makeup off before going into the next cleansing step.

Or if you prefer a liquid oil cleanser, you can try Dear Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. It’s a mild hypoallergenic cleanser that has antioxidants and minerals!

After taking off that first layer, you can start your second cleanse. For those with oily yet sensitive skin, you can try La Roche Posay Effaclar Gel Cleanser

Another fan favorite would be the COSrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. Regardless of its name, it’s a gentle cleanser that even has tea tree oil to prevent breakouts.

Step 2: Exfoliate

The common notion is that if you have dry or sensitive skin, you shouldn’t exfoliate. But that’s not true. You just have to find the right product, in order to get rid of the dry skin to help produce collagen and let specific products seep through your skin better. Here are some that don’t have physical exfoliators, but more on chemical, which is safer and better for your skin:

Pixi Glow Tonic is a strong enough glycolic acid toner that won’t burn. Also available at SM Department Stores in Metro Manila.

Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads, an amazing 2-step peel pads treatment, which are travel friendly too! It’s a great at home treatment, that gives you the same clinical results.

Step 3: Toner

In order to balance out your skin after putting it through a lot of cleansing and exfoliating, you need a toner. Before, toners were made with alcohol, which can dry out your skin and cause more problems. Now, there are a lot of options on the market that are alcohol free and can do more good for your skin than your think.

Thayers Witch Hazel Toner is by far the best non-irritating toner EVER. Great for all skin types and especially those with oily skin. It’s alcohol-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. You can also find these in any Healthy Options store.

Step 4: Serum

This product saves lives (skin). It’s The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. It reduces the appearance of pores, blemishes, uneven skin tone and brightens your complexion over time.

For those especially with dry skin, this is your savior: Hyaluronic Acid. It’s known to draw moisture to the skin and give you a more plumped complexion. The Ordinary has a great Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5.

Step 5: Moisturizer

From experience, I can say that moisturizer is one of the most important steps out of everything. Cleansing and moisturizing are so important. If you have acne prone skin, the notion is to dry up all the oil, but no. Your skin is overproducing oil in order to moisturize your skin. So instead of splashing your face constantly with salicylic acid, you need to constantly moisturize. Your skin will thank you through the mirror.

I’m really picky with moisturizer, since I’ve gone through so many and couldn’t find the perfect one, until I tried the Dear Klairs Supple Preparation All Over Lotion. Yes, you can use it everywhere. And for 200ml for the price for a light weight fast absorbing moisturizer, it’s totally worth it.

Hope you all wake up with better and brighter skin! Sleep tight.
